Hayat Sindi urges Malaysian enterpreneurs to embrace ISDB innovation platform


Kuala Lumpur, 15 January 2018: The advisor to the President of Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) on Science and Technology, Dr. Hayat Sindi has called on entrepreneurs, start-ups, NGOs, researchers and venture capitalists to embrace the innovation platform to be launched by IsDB in February 2018.

The new platform known as Engage will serve as a hub for entrepreneurs and startups so that they can exchange ideas, participate in innovation competition and benefit from an ecosystem that will utilize science and technology to solve development challenges.

“Through Engage, innovators, SMEs, private sector companies and Governments will benefit from tailored mentoring services and expert know-how. This will help them take their proposals to an internationally recognized standard.” Dr. Sindi stated.

As part of the effort to create awareness on the platform, Dr Sindi embarked on a roadshow covering Malaysia and Indonesia, while subsequent ones will take place in Morocco and Senegal, and the last phase will take place in Turkey and Kazakhstan.

During the roadshow in Malaysia, Dr. Hayat Sindi met with senior officials from the Malaysian government including Datuk Siti Zauyah binti Md Desa Deputy Secretary General (Policy), Ministry of Finance and Professor Tan Sri Zakri Abdul Hamid, Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

She also held a workshop for NGOs and start-ups at the Malaysian Innovation Agency (AIM). In order to engage the research community, Dr. Hayat Sindi delivered a lecture at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with the theme “Engaging for Development: Transforming Lives through Science, Technology and Innovation”.

Dr. Sindi told the university professors and students that the core aim of Engage is matchmaking for scientists and innovators, transfer of technology and call for innovation.
