6 Clean Water and Sanitation

This goal targets to provide clean and affordable water for all and provide adequate and hygienic sanitation facilities. It aims to end open defecation by 2030. It aims to manage the water resource and protect and restore water related ecosystems. Expand international cooperation and capacity building for developing countries as well as strengthen local communities for clean water and hygienic sanitation facilities.

There is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve this. But due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.

Science and technology can help tackle key sustainable development challenges.
